That’s hilarious. When I first glanced at Barry’s screen shot, I thought he’d posted for a link that didn’t exist, but on second thought, I think that’s the point. All the dummy text you see in junk email makes it just believable enough to fool somebody.

I also thought it was just an error page that Barry took a screen shot of. I like the subtlety of this piece and it makes us take a second look at a page that we would normally just click back as soon as it comes up.

I remixed the typical 404 Not Found pages by putting the text into an anagram program and putting in a layout like it’s original contents. Through this, I found a several different set of words from which I had to choose what I wanted to display for the page. I wanted to make the anagrams to make not just a body of random words, but in a way that could be read a story. Reading this, reminds a bit of the Jabberwocky, a nonsense poem which I used in a previous assignment. A bit of interest, “nun,” “reverend,” “theif,” and “brothel” keep reappearing on the other error pages I’ve been working on.

This is clever and simple. I think it was on Digg that I saw a collection of interestingly-designed 404 pages, but I like that this uses only the text.

Our reaction is indicative of the familiarity that we have with the internet – as soon as we see a 404 page, we no longer have to read it, we automatically hit the back button. This would be really cool as a sort of hidden piece on your site – not to label it as a project, but have it as an internal link on one of your other pages, and it’s up to the viewer to catch that this is not a normal 404 page.

This is so sweet! I especially enjoy the text “Dungeon Theft Open A Cab” for some reason.

It reminded me of those text-based games I used to play (get ye flask!) If you’re going for the fake 404 screen it needs to be able to tell what browser is viewing the page in order to use that browser’s error message style.

    Anyway, frothiness quest= priceless

Again, you guys are leaving great comments.

Heather’s idea of using these as your 404 screens in a site is pretty clever.

I would love to see a lot more of them, in a lot of different styles as Jarrod suggested.

I think I like this so much because if we didn’t know for sure that it was a remix…I guarantee some of us wouldn’t catch it. I think that says something. It’s also very simple and I’m always a fan of that. It doesn’t have to be complex to be good.
